  • Climate change and the monuments

  • Climate change is one of the greatest environmental issues faced by humanity today. Its consequences have not fully been mapped despite the fact that thousands of awareness raising events have been organized and academic research has been conducted. The Initiative for Heritage Conservancy together with ICCROM the intergovernmental organization on the conservation of monuments, the Canadian Conservation Institute and UCL Qatar have decided to work together for the next three years, organizing three events on the effects climate change has on monuments.

The first event is a colloquium on how climate change has an effect on the risk management of archaeological sites. It is the first time that such an event is organized and we hope it will have a sustainable impact on the discourse and will be useful for both research and practice.
The second activity will be the organization of a transferable exhibition and an educational programme for awareness raising. The third event (that will be repeated in following years) is the taking place of training seminars for specialists from around the world.

All three events are partly funded by the 'Stavros Niarchos Foundation'.
