2011 Eleusis Field Programme and announcement for 2012
Following the success of our August 2010 digitization project and once
again in collaboration with the University of Arkansas, we successfully
completed the second season and further developed our innovative 3D
laser scanning of the archaeological site of Eleusis. The programme ran
during the months of May and June, before the summer heat wave, and was
attended by Greek and US students representing a range of disciplines -
including Archaeological Conservation, Animation, Archaeology, Computer
Engineering and Classics -  who actively participated and contributed
to the continuing digitization of the site. This year and building on
the feedback from last year's students, training was more focused on
laser scanning and data processing. The students now have the skills and
capacity to digitize archaeological sites independently as well as to
improvise and troubleshoot as needed. The digitization of the
archeological site of Eleusis will run for at least one more year and we
intend to expand this innovative programme to other archaeological
sites in the near future. This year too we were honoured to partner with
the University of Arkansas, the Bodossakis Foundation, Mr. T.
Papalexopoulos, the Municipality of Eleusis and the Kykeon Tales
restaurant.
We are delighted to announce that next year we will
be collaborating with Leica, world corporate leaders in 3D laser
scaning,Rapidform, the software giant in the field of point cloud
processing, as well as rising software star Alice Labs. Next year's
intensive summer school will take place from May 21st to June 16th with
the partnership of a new but very promising organisation, the Institute
for Field Research whilst continuing to work with the University of
Arkansas.
